Daniel M. Hull and Dale P. Parnell Partnership Excellence Award
(Formerly Exemplary Worksite Learning Award)

History and Purpose
Established in 1994 by CORD and the National Tech Prep Network, the Exemplary Worksite Learning Award was created to encourage partnerships between education and business to integrate meaningful worksite learning opportunities into their programs. For the 2007 award, the name was changed to the Daniel M. Hull and Dale P. Parnell Partnerships Excellence Award in honor of two visionaries who promoted student academic and career success for more than three decades. The award continues for 2008 under the banner of the newly named National Career Pathways Network.

Sponsors
Shortly after the award began, Caterpillar Inc. began providing financial support for the award. This sponsor relationship has continued uninterrupted for more than a dozen years.

In 2006, Texas Instruments announced that it would join Caterpillar as a co-sponsor of the award. Texas Instruments involvement gave additional prestige to the award and allow award amounts to be increased.

Judging Criteria
Program Overview: (30 points)
· ­Description and goals of the worksite learning program
· Institutions involved (e.g., secondary/postsecondary schools, businesses, community
  organizations)
· Summary of Career Pathway curriculum
·  How, when, and by whom curricula, tasks, and activities were developed and reviewed
· Time students/teachers spend at worksite and schoolsite and how worksite learning is
  coordinated with schoolsite learning
· How worksite learning activities contributes to the overall Tech Prep/Career
  Pathways effort
· Program innovation/uniqueness

Professional Development and Experiences: (15 points)
· List training or experience for teachers, counselors, administrators, or other education
  institution staff that have strengthened the program
· List training or experiences for community and/or employer partners that have
  strengthened the program
· Overall effect of training opportunities on the success of the program

Employer Involvement: (35 points)
· How employer partners helped implement and/or maintain program (indicate monetary or
  inkind contributions, etc.)
· How employer partners are involved with students and/or teachers (e.g., mentors,
  supervisors, classroom speakers)
· Objectives of employer partners' involvement with students and/or teachers
· How worksite experience is evaluated
· Overview of the benefits of the employer partnership

Results: (20 points)
· Measurable student improvement indicators (e.g., grades, graduates' job placement,
  graduates' enrollment in advanced education). Improvement should be evident over the
  course of time.
· How employer partners benefit (e.g. production or training cost reduction, expansion of
  services)
· Other measurements of systemic improvement

Professionalism of Application: (5 points)
· Adherence to application format guidelines and grammatical correctness
 
Submission Requirements
Eligibility
NCPN members affiliated with Career Pathways or Tech Prep programs that contain schoolsite and worksite components.

Review Process
Applications will be judged by the
 NCPN Advisory Board.  Judges will consider the elements of only one program of study in reviewing your application.
 
Application Format
Type on white 8½" by 11" paper.
Double-spaced and paginated.
Use a minimum of 10 point font with 1" margins.
Maximum of eight pages of program narrative and five pages of supportive documents. Additional pages will not be included as part of the evaluation.(Applicants may include table of contents and title page outside of the guidelines mentioned.)
Applications not meeting these requirements will be disqualified and returned to the applicant.
